You can enter a new max bid at any time by entering a bid greater than your current high bid.
A max bid would make it more difficult for others to outbid you.

A max bid is the highest amount you are willing to pay for an auction item.

In response to other bids, the auction system will automatically increase your bid in the smallest increment possible (up to your max bid amount) in order to maintain your lead position.

To get a max bid you simply enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay into the bid form just as you would any other bid. If your bid is more than one bidding increment above the current high bid you will get a max bid unless another bidder has a max bid in place that is higher than the amount you enter.

At the end of the auction, the winning bidder pays only the lowest winning bid possible. That means that you can win an auction item at a price less than your max bid amount.

Your max bid amount is kept confidential from other bidders.

You can lower or delete a max bid by entering a lower amount.

Note: After watching hundreds of auctions and talking to thousands of bidders, we think using max bids in your bidding strategy works best for most people. It eliminates some of the pressure and reduces the risk of "sniping", where other bidders slip in slightly higher bids in the last seconds of bidding.

You now have a max bid.

You can raise or lower your max bid at any time by entering a new amount.

If you wish to remove your max bid you can do so by entering an amount equal to the current bid into the bid form.

You have a max bid of %s on this item. That means that the system will place bids for you in response to bids from other bidders, up to %s.

You can adjust this max bid by using the form above.

If you want to remove your max bid click here.
You can add a max bid to protect your item against other bidders by using the form above.
Place a bid using the form above.

You can enter the minimum bid of %s or a greater amount.

If you bid more than the minimum bid you will get a max bid that the system will use to bid for you against other bidders, up to the amount you enter. So if you enter a bid of %s for this item, the system will place bids on your behalf in response to bids from other users until someone bids more than %s.

Bidding on gleatons.com

Once you are a registered Bidder, you have the opportunity to place bids online. There are two versions of gleatons.com, the Desktop version and the Mobile version. You may use the Desktop version while on your mobile phone by scrolling to the bottom of gleatons.com and clicking on the very last line of words, “Switch to the DESKTOP version”.

Finding the Lots

Using the Desktop version of gleatons.com you are able to see all of the online auctions we have published. You can go to the top right of the page and see all items by clicking the “Show All Items” button. There maybe a thousand or more lots to scroll through. We recommend selecting an auction you wish to bid. Click the red arrow button on that auction photo to enter the auction.

Placing Bids in Desktop version of gleatons.com

Agree to the auction terms by clicking the small box, “Agree to Terms”. Read the terms, it will show the location of items and pick up date. Click out of that pop up box. Type in your bid in the “Your Highest Bid” box and click the “Bid” button. You will see what the minimum bid requirement is under the “Your Highest Bid” box. Once you click the “Bid” button a pop up will appear asking if you are sure and the dollar amount with the buyer’s premium. Select “OK”. Your bid will be accepted. You will get one of two results. If you become the high Bidder a green box will appear and say, “Congratulations. You are the high bidder on this item. A max bid would make it more difficult for others to outbid you”   Or If there is a higher max bid from another Bidder, you will get a green box flashing, it will say “We are sorry. Your bid was accepted but you were outbid by another bidder with a max bid”. You must bid more to outbid the max bid.

Placing Bids in Mobile version of gleatons.com

Click the “Terms” box and click out of the pop up. You can either place a bid by clicking the “Bid” button or place a max bid by clicking the “Enter Bid” button.

Max Bids

We encourage using the Max Bid feature. NOTE: If another Bidder has already placed a higher max bid, you will immediately be outbid until you bid out their max bid.

Communication on Being Outbid

You will get a text and an email with the direct link to the lot, from gleatons.com the second you are outbid. Email may go to your Spam folder. How fast you receive the text and email depends on your internet speed. We strongly recommend using the max bid feature instead of last second “snipe” bidding to avoid potential lagging internet speeds by your internet provider. Please make sure your cell phone number and correct email address is set up in your gleatons.com account.

Extended bidding

Extended bidding on all lots and it means any bids received within 1 minute of closing will extend the time left for bidding for 1 minute.

Odd Increments

Some Bidders may enter odd amounts in order to outbid a previously entered bid.  For example, if you place a bid of $25.01, your bid will be recognized over a previously entered bid of $25.  Once a bid with an odd amount is honored, the required bid increment will be added in order to advance the bid.  For example, if your $25.01 is the current high bid, the next bidder must enter $30.01 (instead of just $30).

Favorite Lots

You can select your favorite items and watch them without bidding on them. Many Bidders do this prior to the Preview Day to remember the items they want to inspect. A Gleaton’s team member is able to view the favorites list to identify the lots the Bidder wants to inspect. You can see your favorites by going to the top right “my Account” tab and clicking on “My Favorites”
